Lofstel, Bedford Avenue: One of the most affordable hostels for backpackers who are planning to stay in NYC and with easy access to the subway (just 2 blocks away) this is a good option. Rooms on shared basis with rooms with 4, 6 or 8 bunks. Shared kitchens and bathrooms are available on all the floors and lockers are also available.
The New York Loft Hostel: Located at 249 Varet Street and two blocks from the subway, the location is very convenient. Union square is at a 10 minutes away and ths hostel from our visits has always been comlimented with friendly staff. The Loft hostel.
1291 Bed and Breakfast: Located in the heart of Manhattan, 1291 Bed and Breakfast is very close to Central Park and Time Square. The hostel (although named as a B&B but in actual fact a backpackers hostel in how it runs) has options for studio apartments, 
suites, single rooms and double occupancy dorms.
Hostelling International in New York: You cannot miss the largest hostel in North America. It is situated at 891 Amsterdam Ave and boasts one of the largest private back garden in Manhattan. Regular tours are organized to Manhattan and the hostel offers all the conveniences you will need including kitchen and recreation facilities such as a lounge, library, and pool table. The location of the hostel is convenient, as it is just one block from Broadway and the main subway line.
