National Tartan Week
In the past decade, New York has been the annual host of one of the biggest celebrations of Scottish heritage: National Tartan Week. The celebration is conducted on a very large scale and features more than 2000 drummers and pipers and includes an an abundance of scotch whiskey and Scottish music, which makes it an extravaganza worth
attending.
National Tartan Week and the Tartan Day Parade takes place every year in the month of April and is well attended by people of Scottish descent in New York as well as those inhabitants who have an appreciation for Scottish culture.
The highlight of this yearly event is the New York Tartan Day Parade which features several uniquely designed floats. The route of the parade begins at 45th street and heads north up 6th Avenue and continues till 58th street. Participants who are interested in putting up floats will have to register on the official website.
Once the parade is over, the festivities do not end as they grow to become the biggest event of the evening, which is the post parade party. This takes place at the Stout NYC, which is located on 133 West 33rd Street. The after party features some of the best Scottish bands.
Apart from this, the other events at Tartan week include a whiskey tasting, a fashion show and a host of other Scottish themed entertainment events.
