Why I love summertime in New York
Summertime in NYC
New York commonly known as the Big Apple is a great place to visit in the summer. Although, New York is a happening place throughout the year, the city becomes especially welcoming in the summer when it hosts concerts in the park, outdoor movie screenings, picnics and festivals.
For me, summertime in New York marks the best spot on my travel calendar as a time when there are hundreds of free events taking place all over the city and if you are
budget traveller, summer is the season when the city will be kindest to you.
Music lovers will enjoy a trip to the Big Apple during August and will be able to attend the several musical concerts held in Bryant Park, Central Park, Lincoln Center and Prospect. Many of these events are free and you will be able to just sit down on the grass and enjoy the show, while eating a typical New York hot dog.
In the second week of August, you will be able to watch popular Broadway shows held in Bryant Park absolutely free. Other interesting events include the Charlie parker jazz festivals and pool parties in McCarren Park. Most of the film festivals tend to charge a small fee for entrance but are known to be great sources of entertainment.
Other interesting things to do in New York include watching Shakespeare in the park events, sampling ice creams and trying out NYC street food. I usually try to stay to the end of summer which is marked by Labour Day in September. On this day, the city throws what I like to think of as a big party, featuring a big parade and many exciting events.
