New York Marathon
Over 40 years old, New York Marathon is one of the most awaited sports events of the year and although a big prize fund is available for the top athletes, many people participate just to be a part of it and simply to bask in the glory of completing one of the worlds top marathons.
The marathon is normally scheduled to take place every November, with the course for the race usually designed to run through all the five important boroughs of the city viz. Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan. Traversing through five bridges and a score of areas, the race finally comes to
an end at Tavern on the Green in Central Park.
The marathon has become an annual national extravaganza and every inch of its course is covered by the national as well as international media. The whole event is under the management of New York Road Runners (NYRR), which is dedicated to promoting the distance running sport and organizing various distance running competitions in the country.
NYRR has also issued a list of etiquettes that should be followed by the runners in order to maintain the decorum of the race and to help it make a huge success. Crossing the finish line at Central Park is nothing less than an achievement and is in full accordance with the zeal of New York Marathon.
Preparations for the Marathon tend to start early each year and application forms can be found on the official site if you fancy participating.
